Excessive hair cutting. Everyone likes to have a fresh haircut when their locks get long and ragged. Yet there are some people whose neurological conditions drive them to shave or cut portions of their hair, even leaving bald spots. Unfortunately, the bald spots leave sufferers with a sense of shame.
They cover up their bald spots with headscarves or headbands, only to return home and cut their hair again as a response to shame-induced stress. If you suffer from this disorder or a similar condition, know that it is just the way your body is wired no different than if you suffered from diabetes. Like diabetes, this condition, called trichotemnomania, can be controlled with the right combination of medication and therapy.
